Description: North of the Galilee, the mountains thrust ever higher. In this region, the famous Cedar of Lebanon grows in the higher altitudes. In Sefer Shmuel (the Book of Samuel,) the Phoenician King Hiram of Tyre contributed some of Lebanon’s famous cedars as building material for the Beit HaMikdash, King David’s Holy Temple. This painting focuses on the hour of sunset, when the air is alive with warm colors. A mist fills the valleys between the hilltops, and Cedars are silhouetted against the primordial clouds.
