Description: The City of Caesarea, on Israel’s central coast south of Haifa, is home to some of the most spectacular ruins in the country. Built by Herod the Great, this ancient port city still boasts the columns, arches, and spires of ancient times, including an enormous aqueduct which carried water to the city. This painting depicts the jetty which still stands against the merciless pounding of the waves thousands of years after it was first erected.
